Into The Lions' Den

It’s many years since a kitten has been seen inside The Rural Retreat – until today.

I’d left the door ajar while I carried shopping in from Grandson of Seat. Having dumped the first load on the kitchen counter I turned to see a small white-and-tabby figure stroll confidently through the doorway and begin exploring the interior, the Christmas tree, and some of The Pride’s toys.

Maia and Pandora watched, incredulous, as the cat burglar wandered around, at first too taken aback to tell the intruder what they thought until Pandora let out a low warning growl – which was ignored. Not wishing to see what happened next in our very own small-scale Dynasties, and with no time to deploy the Pentax, I picked up the visitor and took him (it’s now believed that both kittens are male) back home, where his brother attempted to climb my jeans and both seemed eager to play. They were home alone, which might explain it. I managed to return alone to my own home, leaving them to explore our drive.

No doubt the time will come when they make use of our cat door (after all, The Pride uses theirs uninvited and is prime suspect in The Case of the Neighbour’s Broken Cat-flap). Hopefully the resulting brouhaha won’t cause too much more damage.

Earlier, I completed my third run of the week. This time last year my athletic development hadn’t reached much more than 3+ miles; today I covered seven miles non-stop in 76 minutes (although a nice gentle downhill of 2+ miles was a big help), something I’d not done until June first time around. So far, so good.
