Waiting At The Wedding Dance

by Russell Turner - 16:05 on 21 January 2019

City Limits’ gigging year began on Saturday night with a wedding dance at Bunchrew House, near Inverness. The temperature outside was -5ºC; inside, all was jolly despite the timetable running behind schedule. This meant that we starting playing an hour late, then started the second set even later because Tom’s ceilidh accordion set proved so popular.

We didn’t care. We were being paid for the night, not per song, but it did mean a lot more hanging around than usual – all part of life as a working musician. The only disappointment of the evening was a sponge wedding cake. Shouldn’t be allowed.

A midnight(ish) finish, close to home, meant I was back at The Rural Retreat by 1.30am, where I found three cats waiting for me with folded arms and disapproving expressions – I’d left at 6.30pm so they’d missed their suppers. The mega moon (which I’ve not seen) must have affected then too, for despite the late hour they decided that chasing each other after eating was more important than sleep. I left them to it.

Running Update: Week 4 of training has begun, and today’s run left me just a smidge short of 900 miles completed since I began the Couch to 5k in October 2017. Doesn’t time fly. If you desire regular updates, and lots more feline memes, trot across to my running-only Twitter page, Russ the Runner.
