Imbibing In The Bathroom

by Russell Turner - 18:07 on 17 March 2019

The Rural Retreat’s wonderful new bathroom is still wonderful (although, unsurprisingly, Matchgirl has several tweaks in mind to make it even more splendid) but one drawback to our new ablutions area has quickly become apparent.

Its previous dinginess hid a multitude of housekeeping sins but the new pristine whiteness means there’s no place for dust to hide. Much more regular use must be made of the Dyson.

Someone happy to overlook such sloppiness, probably because she’s also a contributor to far-corner hairballs, is Willow, who’s showing too great an interest in the toilet. Fresh water is always available in the kitchen but cats like a change, which means the lid is now kept down: a waterlogged feline could be the least worst outcome of a careless leap.

She’s not given up, though. Yesterday a banging from the bathroom alerted me to a cat attempting to raise the lid so she could enjoy the forbidden waters beneath. Cats don’t care.

Marathon Update: My date in London is a mere six weeks away. The weather’s still rubbish but I managed the planned four miles today; on Thursday I’ll aim for 15. If I’m lucky the icy winds will have dropped by then.
