An Abundance Of Foxes
by Russell Turner - 14:52 on 13 July 2019
Life is filled with foxes. Last night City Limits played at Johnny Foxes, to an enthusiastic audience (the karaoke version of Sweet Child was a particular highlight); while we were on stage a vulpine visitor was taking a look around The Rural Retreat’s garden – almost certainly the possible vixen snapped by Matchgirl in my absence.
She was probably there on Wednesday night too. That was the first opportunity I’d had to put out the Bushnell since returning from my trip south but mist and murk meant that all I recorded was a few indistinct blurs which could have been cats, foxes or aadvarks.
Thursday provided proof that Matchgirl’s sighting wasn’t a one-off with a clear shot of a fox investigating the egg and nuts left out for its dining pleasure.
For last night I repositioned the camera and moved it closer. The first shots looked very like the rear end of brock, disappearing into the undergrowth, which was a bonus as I didn’t know if we were still on their nightly patrol route. Half an hour later our fox was back; it looks safe to say we’ve a regular visitor.
The Bushnell will go out again tonight, while I’m back at Foxes, but it will be Monday before I’m able to find out what’s been captured because tonight I stay in Inverness to catch the early flight to London and my appointment with Rick at the Royal Festival Hall. That’s even more exciting than foxes.
