The Egg Thief

by Russell Turner - 09:15 on 20 July 2019

There’ve been no more dual species Bushnell snaps to share, but the badger has been around every night. The fox has missed a night here and there but remains a regular visitor, usually showing up after Brock.

Matchgirl feared that the badger would steal the egg left specifically for the fox. That’s not happened. On nights when just the badger has visited the egg has still been there in the morning, although the peanuts have gone. If Brock didn’t take them the voles will have enjoyed a feast.

Or maybe not.

Last night’s egg and nuts were supplemented with an ex-vole, brought in by Willow, which may have been snaffled by Pandora, who was the first creature to be snapped by the Bushnell. The badger came next. No fox was snapped (although the Bushnell doesn’t capture everything that passes in front of it).

Badger 8

Incontrovertible proof that Brock had ignored last night’s egg came in a picture this morning of it being carried away by an opportunistic crow, which confirms what had pecked open an unwanted egg a couple of nights before.

The Egg Thief

Still no pine martens though; it looks like those days are long gone.

Athletic Update: Just 50 days until the Great North Run. Tomorrow’s training target is a mere seven miles. Let’s hope the rainstorms are over by then.
