The Best Laid Plans...

Six days ago I ran a half marathon PB and my athletic hopes were high. Since then the Alloa HM has been postponed, Shakespeare HM cancelled and the Edinburgh Marathon, the ultimate target for all this effort, also postponed. Sod’s Law says it will be rescheduled on the same day as the Yorkshire Marathon, or clash with a City Limits gig that’s too good to turn down. And next weekend’s Wigan 10 Miler is in doubt too; no word yet on the Cheshire 10k. Coronavirus is a nuisance.
Despite that, training goes on towards the now empty Edinburgh date when (all being well) Matchgirl and I will celebrate our peak of fitness by running a private marathon, even if there’ll be no race medal and shirt at the end of it. Or water stations. Or cheering crowds. It will be a new experience.
I’m optimistic that a couple of smaller Highland 10ks will go ahead, to help break up the lone running, but nothing’s definite.
However, the year’s ultimate objective remains the Yorkshire Marathon when I hope I’ll finally crack the five hour barrier (if Matchgirl’s not helped me do that earlier). The auspices must be good, for I’ve featured on one of the event’s promo photos. I’m there if you look hard.
