Playing Safe

by Russell Turner - 21:26 on 18 March 2020

On Saturday City Limits Lite (keyboard wizard Richard couldn’t make it) wowed a modest but appreciative crowd at the Bandstand Bar in Nairn. Today drummer Duncan reported a restless night with fever, headache and sore throat. No cough, though, so he hopes it’s regular flu rather than coronavirus. He’s begun self-isolation.

Coincidentally, we’ve decided to cancel our appearance at Foxes next week (to Matchgirl’s relief) and two holiday camp bookings in April to keep us healthy for lucrative wedding gigs in April and May, if they go ahead. The agent who supplied our holiday camp gigs revealed that other bands have pulled out too, so we’re not the only ones being socially responsible.

I look forward to Boris announcing at his next press conference some help for the beleaguered self-employed. It would be useful.

Even more useful would be keeping the locusts out of the shops. My trip to Tesco, on what is usually a quiet Wednesday morning, found crowds shopping more desperately than they do on Christmas Eve. Little of what I needed was available. So much for the stiff upper lip and the spirit of the blitz.
