In The Audience

by Russell Turner - 22:18 on 29 January 2021

Suddenly I’m in demand by the BBC. On Tuesday, Matchgirl and I will be part of the virtual audience for a recording of Mock The Week, to be viewed from the comfort of our sofa via Google Chrome (for the audience recording system – the BBC insists on that browser, for some reason) and Zoom.

Last week I partook in a recording of The News Quiz and will do so again in two weeks. The Ticket Gods have been generous (they never let me have Strictly recording tickets though).

To be honest, The News Quiz was a bit of a disappointment. Doubtless it sounded fine when edited but on the day the comedy was a little lacklustre; it’s probably difficult to spark properly when all the participants are in different rooms. Maybe it was just a duff show and the next will be better, although it has dipped since the days of Miles Jupp and Sandy Toksvig.

However, I’m looking forward to MTW, especially as it has a three-hour recording time so will be good value for money (even though it’s free). And who knows when we’ll get the opportunity to be inside a real theatre or concert hall.

If you fancy your chances of tickets go to BBC Shows, Tours and Take Part and get on the mailing list.

Meanwhile, training continues. Sunday should have been the day I make my latest 10k PB bid but stretching the programme because of ice and gales mean that’s the day I begin my final week, ending next Friday. Today was the final long run – a surprisingly comfortable nine miles, despite an occasional chill breeze, on ice-free and mostly dry roads. It wasn’t fast, but it wasn’t supposed to be.
