Rejected Again

There was no great surprise when I checked the London Marathon website today and discovered I’d been unsuccessful in the ballot for places. Matchgirl was unlucky too.
This may have been fortunate. The Yorkshire Marathon is two weeks after London, and Sod’s Law says that if Covid hits the Edinburgh Marathon it will be rescheduled around the same time. I’d have a go at running multiple marathons but might live to regret it.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that any real races will go ahead or, if they do, that I’d feel comfortable in a crowd: that’s why I’ve taken out back-up in the form of a place in the Virtual London Marathon, to be run the same day (or thereabouts if I follow last year’s practice).
If I really wanted to be bold I could also sign up for the Loch Ness Marathon, to be run the same day as virtual London, and earn two medals from one race. Sophie Raworth did it last year, at Dorney, and she’s a proper runner. But I’m not, so maybe not.
In the meantime I’m halfway through Week 1 of Edinburgh training. Tomorrow is a mixed run, but it’s also forecast to be our first day of non-stop snow, plus wind, so more likely to happen on Wednesday, followed by the first long run (a mere seven miles) on Thursday. Cold but little wind is predicted; it could be a good day.
