So Far, So Good
by Russell Turner - 15:28 on 22 April 2022
My athletic comeback continues cautiously but well. Since London Landmarks, two walks have been followed by two 5k runs, then a longer run/walk two days ago. Between times, Mr Physio’s strengthening exercises have been performed. The result is that my poorly feet are feeling much better. They’re not totally there but there’s definitely light at the end of the tunnel.
Today’s outing was another modest 5:1 run/walk, only marginally slower than the 5k fully run a week ago and with a heart rate 10bpm lower – either my fitness has made an astonishing leap in seven days or the new battery in my HR strap means the measurement is more accurate.
Despite that, I won’t be racing any 10ks yet, which is a shame: the next virtual London 10,000, just a few days away, produced PBs both last year and the year before. I could enter and jog the distance to mark the return of my running form but it would be a meaningless medal. I’ll save my money for real races.
