Back With A Plan
by Russell Turner - 17:06 on 15 January 2023
Week 1 of Inverness Half Marathon training is over. Whether the forecast snow and ice allows Week 2 to happen is in the lap of the Running Gods.
Two easy and one steady sessions kicked off the plan – mostly dry, all cold to begin – followed by a six-mile long run yesterday, around Fortrose, Rosemarkie and Chanonry Point, with a handful of Black Isle Runners. The first 5k(ish) was a regular Saturday morning run, which gigs and lethargy had deterred me from attending in the past. After that was an optional 5k(ish) to hit the target which all but one runner joined in.
The pace wasn’t much different to my lone efforts but it felt tougher, maybe because they were loops I’d never run before or/and there was slightly more elevation. Or maybe it was because I and one other runner were at the back, watching five others who appeared to be covering the distance much more easily.
I’ll try again next week when a mile will be added to the optional distance, snow and ice permitting.
