Spanish Disappointment
by Russell Turner - 22:41 on 25 December 2024
The week before Christmas could have been better: the cold I thought I had turned out to be flu (fainting at the end of a gig was the big giveaway, although the lack of appetite should have warned me earlier) and my Barcelona Half Marathon hopes were dashed on Christmas Eve, which was cruel. At least my new passport is in the post, although whether it will ever be used remains to be seen.
I feel ready to get back on the road but will leave it for at least another couple of days. It’s a week since I’ve run – the longest break I’ve had for ages – which my legs and body probably appreciate, especially as the fainting fall has left me with two sore spots. No bruises though, so nothing to show off.
Now there’s no unexpected foreign race to squeeze in, training has reverted to Plan A, with the new marathon block beginning on January 5 and a few random runs in the meantime. The Carlisle to Gretna X-Border 10k on February 2 remains the year’s first race.
