Food Glorious Food

Matchgirl, regular readers will know, is not an enthusiastic cook. Before I entered her kitchen she existed on cheese, crackers, Kettle Chips and bananas.

So her devotion to the multitude of TV cookery programmes that occupy the airwaves lacks a certain logic.

Her enthusiasm meant that tonight a televisual feast not to be missed was on the menu – the final of Masterchef (a programme that comes second only to Come Dine With Me on her list of culinary delights) fronted by her dream guys John and Greg.

My view is that such programmes should be banned for giving her unreal expectations of what can be produced in The Rural Retreat's modest kitchen space. Liquid nitrogen is never likely to feature in our food preparation and I've never owned a blowtorch.

The only one of these shows she's disinclined to watch features the luscious Sophie Dahl. Shame.
