Trouble with the Neighbour

by admin - 22:16 on 25 April 2010

The Rural Retreat and its environs continues to be an unhappy place for cats.

Bess returns to Dr Death's surgery tomorrow for her post-operative check-up, and not a moment too soon for Matchgirl's peace of mind.

The patient remains listless; eager to do nothing except sleep apart from her occasional trips outdoors for fresh air and to take care of personal business.

So it's unfortunate that Romeo doesn't know or doesn't care that the object of his interest is a delicate moggy recuperating from her latest medical drama. It seems that every time she pokes her nose outside the cottage, ten seconds later the nuisance from next door is there too, desperate for a friend or – more worryingly – filled with spring fever.

Whatever the cause, his boisterousness is too much for a lady who wants a quiet life. Matchgirl now escorts Bess outdoors, armed with a water-filled squeezy bottle that's already been used several times to deter the frolicsome feline from getting too close.

Which means that neither cat is enjoying life much at the moment, although Romeo has the consolation of currently being boss in the garden.

He'd better make the most of it. When Bess is restored to full health she'll have a score to settle.
