An Ineptitude of Cats

The Rural Retreat now has its very own pride of miniature lionesses, although its hunting skills have much room for improvement.
Matchgirl reports that this morning, while I toiled at GNoME HQ, Bess and Spider were enjoying the sun in the garden (independent of each other) when two collared doves flew in to take advantage of the seed left scattered with careless generosity across the lawn.
Both moggies, unaware of the other, assumed the attack position and waited for their chance. Both pounced at the same time, equally ineptly, for the birds escaped with ease and the only creatures to get a fright were two hunters who almost collided in their bid for fresh meat.
Much greater co-ordination will be required if the two wish to strike terror into the garden's birdlife. I think our feathered friends have a safe future, especially as Romeo is missing again. He must have heard that his appointment with the vet's scissors is next week.
Miss Marten called tonight and had her fill of Nutella, honey and some newly bought nuts and raisins. She ignored the egg. This morning, when I realised we were out of nuts, I put out pumpkin seeds as a substitute.
She nibbled one and left the rest. Pine martens know what the like and what they don't.
