Because It's There

by admin - 23:09 on 22 July 2010

Matchgirl's been keen all week to do some serious walking, while I've been itching to put the Pentax to some proper use. Today we gave ourselves the opportunity. She succeeded; I failed.

The snaps might look better when I get home and see them on a decent screen, but I suspect not. Although it's been another rainless day, the sky was solid grey and the light uninspiring. That's my excuse, anyway.

I also had the distraction of taking control of Agent Cooper for the first time so several snappery opportunities were squandered while I played with Matchgirl's Mini. I'll be drummed out of the RPS if the Serious Lenses get to hear.

Our day out ended in Clapham, a pretty little village up the A65 from Settle, where I relaxed by the river and watched the martins zip around while I awaited her return from the hills. She got carried away and climbed Ingleborough during a trek on which she was worried by hungry sheep, pestered by garrulous Englishmen and pursued by over-friendly Germans. Some people can't be let out on their own.

Ingleborough was shrouded in mist, so she didn't even have the reward of the view from the summit for her efforts. Shame.

From martens to martins. You really do like the name but which is your favourite?

No contest - martens every time!
