The Cat Crept In
by admin - 22:19 on 04 August 2010
Since Spider became part of our household, and established herself in the computer room/guest room, Bess has refused to go upstairs.
The mat at the top of the stairs, and our bed (when it's unoccupied), were favourite places, but a piqued Bess has abandoned them. She's a cat who likes to make a point.
So the sight of her peering cautiously around the bannisters at six this morning was unexpected. Much caterwauling had taken place earlier which I'd blamed on Spider's relentless quest for company, and ignored – 5.30am is for sleep, not play. Now I realised that Bess was the culprit.
There was no ex-rodent hanging out of her mouth, so she'd not come up to show off. Perhaps she was in need of company?
As if... After shouting up the stairs, to no avail, for someone to fill her breakfast bowl she'd come to check that there was a good reason for her demands not being met, like the provider of Sheba lying dead in his bed.
As soon as she realised I was alive she scurried back down the stairs to stare pointedly at her bowl. Spider, who was already downstairs, did the same. Cats can be such bullies.
Mystery Moggy stole more Nutella yesterday evening but hasn't been seen today, much to the disappointment of Matchgirl who returned from Shetland this afternoon. Master Marten was about yesterday, in the gloom of 10pm; the same seems likely today. Home-based marten snappery is definitely over for another year.
The latest snappery news centres on the Scottish Photographic Federation's annual camera club battle. Cromarty CC took middling places in both colour print and projected image sections.
Every year a CD is compiled of the best submissions, to be shown at camera club meetings around the country. Two of my snaps have been selected for a place in this prestigious collection (a cheetah and a lilac-breasted roller, both available for purchase on this very site at extremely reasonable prices).
However, my achievement was given perspective by the success of Dolphin James who had four images accepted. Show off.
