Breakfast With The Boss
by admin - 20:13 on 04 October 2010
Bess must have been allowed to rule the roost in my and Matchgirl's absence, for she's become even more loudly assertive than before our Shetland sojourn.
Food was demanded at 4.50 this morning (although she didn't get any until 7.30). Following breakfast she insisted that we play, after which she left the cottage to snooze in the sun and the long grass.
In the afternoon she was most indignant to find me in her new favourite place, the spare bedroom/office, and shouted at me to leave even though I wasn't taking space on her sofa-bed. She curled up and went to sleep with her back to me when I refused to be intimidated. You've got to stand up to bullies.
I was busy on the Mac, trying to make the best of one of the few Shetland snaps that I'd kept – a stormy scene taken just south of Lerwick. Several crops were tried until I found the best one, above.
Only a few other snaps survived, which is a poor show for a whole week away. My efforts to find shots to enter in camera club competitions may be to blame, for I spent too much time searching for suitable subjects instead of just taking pictures. Maybe it's time to step back from competition for a while.
The fact that, in my absence, Master Marten's portrait was ruled not good enough to represent the club in the Highland Challenge has nothing to do with this. Although I think I'm entitled to a small sulk on his behalf.
Matchgirl had a small sulk of her own, this morning, when we weighed ourselves for the first time following a week of dietary abandon. I was a mere half pound above my target weight but she'd added three. Life can be so unfair.
