Winter Visitors
by admin - 22:58 on 19 October 2010
Winter's not far away: a sprinkling of snow on Ben Wyvis, the Cockbridge to Tomintoul road passable with care, and The Rural Retreat's Rampaging Rodents making merry in the wall spaces and beneath the upstairs floorboards.
Mouse activity has increased notably in the last week or so as the invasion's vanguard scouts around for more robust seasonal shelter than the bushes or the long grass at the bottom of the garden. If Bess hears anything, she pretends not to.
Mustelid activity also continues apace. Master Marten was seen yesterday and again this evening, first on the gate and then outside the living room window where he knows he's now guaranteed to find food. He's still a noisy eater.
Flash-assisted snappery might be attempted sometime in the future, but until then I'm happy just to watch him eat his supper. When the top cat-sitting team of Soo and Tony returns, which it's scheduled to do in November, I'll expect to see some ace trail camera footage.
