The Flying Dolphin
by admin - 20:32 on 24 October 2010
Last month, Matchgirl flew to Shetland with me; this month, she's gone away with Norman.
But there's nothing to worry about – he's a friend of James's: six inches of blue fur from nose to tail, Travelling Norman the cuddly dolphin.
The plan is that holidaymaking friends will take his photo in exotic parts of the world and create an album that they'll both be able to enjoy in years to come when neither can get around so much. Norman's already been to Normandy (of course) and Kingussie and been offered trips to Egypt and Portugal.
He'll need them after a few days in Lerwick, for snow showers greeted Matchgirl on touchdown at Sumburgh.
I've not been left completely alone, and there's no fear of becoming overawed by the silence while she's gone. Not only do I have a shouty cat for company, there's also the rodent hordes a-scurry inside the walls and a pine marten with no table manners slurping his way through his supper just outside the sitting room window.
Getting some sleep might be a challenge.
I think we are visiting Scotland again at the right time a break is needed for your sanity!
