Financial Fun

It's been an exciting day at GNoME HQ, although little of it involved my employment there.
The real action took place on the bottom of my PC screen where a discrete tab displayed the plummeting price of Falkland oil exploration shares, on which rest my hopes of a leisurely future.
But then everything changed. At 10am the share price soared, rising 120% in half an hour. Had oil been found? Should I order my JR Ewing hat? Or was the leap all down to bored city traders having a bit of fun after too much Bolly with breakfast?
The shenanigans calmed down after a couple of hours, and at the end of the day the price was only 76% up. The company had declined to comment on the rise or speculation that it had struck black gold. The guy who confessed on the bulletin board that he had sold his entire holding half an hour before the rise began, expecting the price to drop further so he could buy it back again cheaper, must be feeling most displeased with life.
My fingers remain crossed – the current drilling is expected to reach target depth tomorrow or Friday, so perhaps good news has leaked from the platform. Matchgirl's dream of an Antarctic expedition may be a little closer.
