A Comfortable Cat
by admin - 22:56 on 08 December 2010
Life is generally comfortable for The Rural Retreat's pampered puss. Bess has two downstairs baskets, two upstairs mats, her own blanket on the bed, a reserved shelf above a radiator, use of the couch in the spare bedroom, a window seat where she can watch birds and pine martens, and first dibs on the living room sofa.
But that's not enough.
The box that contained the latest addition to Matchgirl's footwear collection is her new favourite place. It may be only just big enough for her to curl up inside, and lined with nothing more than tissue paper, but she's made herself at home there.
Throw in one of her catnip toys and the cardboard receptacle becomes a feline activity centre, source of much innocent amusement for a cat who likes to scrabble for her prey beneath the tissue. Happy days.
My worry is that Matchgirl will use provision of pet recreation as an excuse to buy even more shoes. On the other hand, when did she need an excuse to buy shoes...
