Two Steps Forward
by admin - 20:54 on 17 December 2010
The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery today took two further steps forward on the long and winding road to proper (ie: not solely online) publication, although weather and Christmas parties did their best to trip up its authors.
Dolphin James and I had planned to visit Dingwall Printers, pick up the test pages and quiz Brian about a firm printing schedule. However, he drives a Vectra and I drive a Mondeo and neither of us fancied braving snowy roads in the morning, and the afternoon was out because Norman, Brian and their inky colleagues were to spend it pursuing Saturnalian revels.
Andrew, the third member of the triumvirate, has a 4x4, but he was to be otherwise engaged, delivering a friend into the snowier wastes of Aberdeen, so it appeared that we wouldn't see the pages until next week.
His friend can't have fancied the elements either, for Andrew was free at the last minute and able to collect the pages, which he did. They're not quite what we'd hoped for but a few digital tweaks and the proper glossy paper (Brian had none in stock) should make all the difference. One step forward.
The second step came after another day spent hunched over my Mac, at the end of which the new, improved, revised and even better edition of The BB of BIS appeared on Blurb. You can preview it above. See if you can spot the differences.
We still hope the local edition will be available in early February. Reserve your copy by leaving your details here. You'll only kick yourself if you have to wait for the second print run after the first is snapped up by discerning book-lovers.
One eager would-be owner of the pictorial treasure is Kate, who left a message on James's site.
I was surfing the net and came upon this fab book by chance on Russell's blog. I could hardly believe my eyes! I shall probably buy a couple when the time comes.
You must make sure this gem of a publication is marketed with the highest profile. For folk like us who know every nook and cranny of the territory it provides a cracking cornucopia of memories! Thank you all. It was a lovely surprise stumbling on it.
Thanks, Kate. With enthusiasm like that we might even get into a third print run.
Last word today goes to Matchgirl. The word is 'Wuss'. That's what she called me for my motoring cowardice, and backed it up by driving Agent Cooper to town and back without mishap. Show off.
Russell your wife is right "WUSS" no wonder you stay home with puss.
