Inspirational Images

The latest edition of the RSPB Birds magazine is an inspiration for a would-be wildlife snapper. Its images are always top class but some of the latest are just astounding.
The three that particularly caught my eye are of a firecrest, a coal tit and two squabbling goldfinches. I've stolen low-res versions from the RSPB Images website (hence the watermark) so you can share them.
Huge amounts of patience and planning must have gone into capturing the photos; the unobtrusive background is a lesson in itself.
Some people, after looking at these amazing shots, might be tempted the throw away their camera, but they've had the opposite effect on me. I've been wondering for a while on which aspect of wildlife snappery to concentrate. Now I know.
This doesn't mean I'll ignore pine martens, of course – yesterday evening I watched Miss Marten's scamperings with no less fascination than I did those of our first mustelid visitor – but I'll make more effort with the birds.
Don't expect award-winning images just yet, though.
Book Update: Brian has printed three-quarters of The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery, we were told today. The rest should be done by Monday at the latest. Our target of a late February publication looks good.
