R.I.P. Cissy
by admin - 20:40 on 05 February 2011
Our guest didn't survive the night. Whether she was on her last legs when we found her, or we killed her with kindness, I can't say, but what looked like a wound on her neck suggests Cissy had suffered a drama earlier in the evening.
Ex-mice, voles and birds found in The Rural Retreat's garden are usually left atop the gate to give visiting martens a protein boost. However, Matchgirl felt that this was inappropriate so the corpse was placed beneath some bushes where, doubtless, a scavenger will make the most of her.
I've seen lots of siskins around the feeders but never had an opportunity to examine one so closely before. They're beautiful little things. Life can be cruel.
Another of last year's garden siskins
I cheered myself up later in the day, after a morning spent distributing publicity posters for The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery, by reading a review of Pentax's new flagship camera, the K-5. A snip at £950 (body only) but worth every penny, it seems.
If The Bumper Book sells a thousand copies I'll treat myself to one. So I'll be using the K100D for a long time yet. A very long time, I suspect.
