A Lack of Lights
by admin - 00:40 on 18 February 2011
I've never seen the Northern Lights, despite being co-author of a book of snappery in which they feature (available soon for the bargain price of only £19.95).
So news today that a huge solar flare means the Aurora Borealis might be seen in all its glory during the next two or three nights was of particular interest.
Sadly, for tonight at least, I've still not seen them. Clear skies in the early evening were obscured by light fog later on, and then by cloud. Such is life.
I'll try again tomorrow, although it will mean a late night – I'm advised that the best time to see the lights is between 1am and 3am. At least I'll be able to wait indoors with a good book.
My vigil wasn't a total waste. I was able to spend ten minutes in the company of Master Marten (it was definitely him) while he gobbled an egg and other goodies. Not all of them, though. He left behind enough for a second snack when he'd completed his rounds.
Good housekeeping comes naturally to martens.
