Masters of Marketing

by admin - 23:38 on 19 March 2011

Our first full day as published authors went as well as could have been hoped for – we sold thirteen copies (most of them signed) in two hours from the tiniest table there was at Culbokie Market, generated interest and gathered promises of future sales.

The only down side was immediately breaking yesterday's vow and allowing my picture to be taken, as part of the Bumper Snapper Triumvirate, for use in the Ross-shire Journal.

Several outlets now have their stock, and with a few random sales yesterday we've already disposed of almost half of The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery's first print run. At this rate we'll have few left for The Official Launch Shindig, for we still have pre-ordered copies to dispatch, more outlets to supply and plans to attend another market next weekend, at North Kessock.

Not everyone was impressed by the book, it must be admitted. Like the guy who baulked at the price. And the woman who leafed through it then walked away disappointed after exclaiming: “It's just pictures!”

You can't please everyone.

Animal Update: Mustelids have visited after our bedtime the last couple of evenings, but Mystery Marten arrived earlier tonight – in the middle of The Killing, of course. She ate happily until Romeo the Bully took too close an interest.

A brief pursuit ended with MM up a tree and Romeo at the bottom of it. I chased off the bully which gave MM the chance to escape. Life in the wild can be tough.

Gill is trying to take the credit for the sales! She is happy to work (for free) at future markets to prove her worth as the top sales person at Bassman Books.

Should we interview her?

Sounds good to me. We could interview Matchgirl too - nothing wrong with some glamour in the sales force.
