Motoring Madness

Matchgirl may be enjoying her time in Edinburgh a little too much. A text today informed me that the shopping was great and the cocktails were better.
And she's planning a trip to Mongolia.
She and two other girlies have been seduced by the glamour of the Mongol Rally, in which teams trek from London to Ulan Bator in small secondhand cars. To make it more interesting they propose beginning the trip in Shetland.
This could all be down to one Harvey Wallbanger too many but she seems quite keen on the idea, even if it means leaving me home along for four weeks. How she'll cope without Bess is another matter.
If the idea's not been forgotten by the time she returns to The Rural Retreat I'll report its progress.
Squirrel Update: Squirrels were conspicuously absent when Marten James and I took part in our naturewatch this morning, courtesy of the former Chief Gnome's former assistant, but two warm, sunny hours in a comfy chair in an attractive garden overlooked by trees and filled with birdsong was no hardship. Maybe we'll be luckier next time.
