Faster Than A Speeding Bullet

Hedgehogs and elephants have much in common – both can cover ground at deceptive speed.
The one spotted in the garden of The Rural Retreat this morning (hedgehog, that is) took us by surprise because the only one we've seen before came at night.
It was 10am when I noticed the hoggy bumbling around at the bottom of the garden. He made for the undergrowth then changed his mind and galloped the length of the garden to exit past the open gate. Like a Namibian elephant, he covered the ground without appearing to move.
This was my first opportunity for hedgehog snappery, which may explain the over-excited camera-shake that meant, frustratingly, that none of my snaps were very sharp. That and having to hit the autofocus button before every snap as he sped across the lawn.
Two snaps were worth saving for Flickr but neither are printable. Ho hum.
I had better luck with a couple of young blue tits who made free with scraps of peanut butter left behind by the marten who dropped by during yesterday's gloaming. This was neither Lumpy nor Son Of Master Marten, which means we've a third individual taking advantage of free eggs and Nutella.
If only they'd come in decent daylight. None had appeared by 11pm today. I'll try to be patient.
