Blaming The Tools

The sooner The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery becomes a runaway success, the better. Then I'll be able to buy a better camera and a longer lens.

The young woodpecker and his mum I snapped today insisted on staying in The Nutella Tree and the apple tree, which are too far from the window for the Pentax's 300mm zoom to capture sharp detail, even with a tripod.

Woodpeckers

To get the scene at all was great but I'd like to be able to do it more justice. Junior stayed put while mum brought beakfuls of peanut from the feeder.

Young Woodpecker

I was close enough to the action when Lumpy visited after 10pm tonight but dim conditions and high ISO meant lots of noise. A whizzy new K5 would help improve picture quality.

Marten 8

Or I could go mad with a chainsaw and let more light into the garden.
