Tough Times For Cats
by admin - 22:00 on 14 June 2011
The Rural Retreat's resident moggy has had a traumatic day.
Her first drama occurred at lunchtime when we became separated during a stroll through nearby woodland. After an anxious few minutes I found her in a clearing, shouting for me to come and guide her back home. Unhappy (but invisible) wrens tutted at her all the way.
Worse was to come later in the day when my work in the upstairs office was disturbed by the cat who peered cautiously around the door. It was Romeo.
As soon as I moved he ran downstairs and out of the front door that I'd left open. Bess, who'd just emerged from behind the sofa, watched but said nothing. A few minutes later, when I'd returned to work, she came to join me, clearly unnerved by the experience and unwilling to be alone. Poor puss.
She was much more laid back this evening when Master Marten dropped by just after she'd exited the Retreat. The visitor ate his supper whilst keeping an eye on the moggy on the doorstep, just feet away. Neither were concerned.
His visit happened so recently that I've not yet downloaded the snaps, so the one above is from last night. I'll post tonight's tomorrow, when James will be able to see some different poses and proof that Master Marten isn't stuffed. Such jealousy. They're still at ISO 3200 though.
Today's other wildlife highlight was another woodpecker feeding session. The snaps are slightly better than the last ones but still suffer from the distance. Sadly, I won't be able to try again tomorrow because illness is sweeping through GNoME HQ and the Chief Gnome's Chief Assistant has begged me to come to the rescue.
I knew they'd discover that I'm indispensable, although there's been no word of an enhanced pay rate. Cheapskates.
