A Boldness of Martens
by admin - 23:50 on 06 July 2011
A small pine marten returned tonight, just after nine when we'd settled down to watch The Apprentice. (Hooray, Tom survived again.)
We were able to get a good look at him (or her) and I managed a couple of snaps that show his bib well enough to confirm that the visitor was Lumpy, the first marten to be captured digitally this year.
I'm not convinced this was last night's nervous visitor, however. I think tonight's was bigger and certainly bolder – just look at the face and the Nutella-smeared nose.
Today's dismal weather didn't aid snappery, but as I have my first upright marten I don't care; the first of many, if I'm lucky.
Proof that this is a young marten is that he ate all the Nutella he could find but ignored a healthy and protein-rich egg. Kids, eh?
