Lurking in the Woods
by admin - 23:04 on 29 July 2011
Wildlife continues to elude me. It's days since any mammalian life has been seen in the garden. Apart from cats.
So today I turned to the secret hide established by James in Black Isle woodland that must remain unidentified. I've been leaving treats out this week, while my fellow snapper and his family holiday in England, but today was the first time I've used the facilities.
The results were poor. Word must have got around the woodland creatures, for in the hour I spent there I saw no animal or birdlife whatsoever. I'd have stayed longer but had to get home to make Matchgirl's tea. She'd go hungry without me.
However, it was a relaxing interlude, watching the light sweep slowly across the fallen log on to which James lures his martens. I could have done without the mosquito, though.
I did have one sighting today – one of the Black Isle's thinly scattered red squirrel that darted into the road and back again when he saw Mr Ford looming. Both survived.
