Busy Days For Chatterers
by admin - 15:58 on 09 February 2012
Mere days remain before the spring edition of Chatterbox, the Black Isle community magazine, emerges from the surprisingly snazzy printer hidden in the bowels of Chatter HQ in Avoch.
A smattering of copy is still to arrive, and pages have yet to be proof-read by a gaggle of volunteers who each have their own opinion of what constitutes correct style – all to be filtered through The Chief Chatterer before it reaches me, fortunately – but the end is almost nigh.
There's even a choice of front covers for her to consider: one which may offend a vocal Temperance element within the organisation, being a picture of Cromarty's youngest brewer at work; one which may offend local poultry-keepers, being a picture of a well-known Black Isle pine marten.
Even more controversial is a new website (nothing to do with me), proposed by one of the Chatterers, which would overlap the content of the magazine and thus put its circulation in jeopardy. As this is a problem that the national media has still to solve, the debate at the next Group Chat may become heated.
I've also been hard at work on The Mystery Project, so there's been little time left for snappery. I have my fingers crossed for next week.
Band Update: Make a note in your diary: Strawdogs have a gig. The place to be is The Drouthy Duck in Maryburgh on April 7. Entry is free. Serious gig-hunting will take place soon, aided by the recording we plan to make tonight that will become our new demo CD.
Book Update: Another date for your diary: Eden Court, Inverness, 11am on Saturday March 24. That's when the official opening of The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery's latest exhibition will be held, although the prints will be hung a few days earlier. If you can't make that, the exhibition runs until the end of April. All prints will be tastefully framed and available for purchase at competitive prices.
