Happy Birthday To Us
by admin - 20:35 on 19 March 2012
Yesterday was The Official Birthday of The Bumper Book of Black Isle Snappery: our great work is one year old.
Today, Andrew and I (Squirrel James had to work) hung the twenty prints that will represent us and the book at the exhibition in Eden Court, Inverness. It runs until the end of April.
A bit of forethought would have helped. The random dimensions of the chosen twenty meant that we spent some time on the floor, arranging and rearranging the snaps in an attempt to find a symmetry that looked planned. The result was acceptable, if slightly lopsided, but would have been rejected with a sneer by The Serious Lenses at an RPS distinctions assessment.
We then had to wait while the Eden Court staff, who'd provided lots of hanging strings, found enough hooks for us to make use of them. Then Andrew's OCD tendencies kicked in as he tried and failed to ensure without a spirit level and a plumb line that every frame hung straight. The uneven floor was no help.
But we persevered and after an hour the exhibition was complete – and looked so good that within minutes of Andrew arriving home he was informed that two of the exhibits had already been sold. Both of them were his; not that I'm jealous.
I marked the occasion by updating my home page for the first time in far too long. What a handsome trio.
