Fledglings And Felines

by admin - 21:55 on 30 May 2013

Summer is almost here, if the last two days' fine weather continues, but still no daylight pine martens. I suppose my luck had to run out eventually, despite the huge amount of money spent on Nutella, peanut butter and Tesco's best unsalted mixed nuts and raisins.

So snappery continues to focus on fledglings and felines – a sometimes unhappy combination. I hope I never again have to hear the screams of a young blackbird as it's carried away by Pandora. It was rescued and left out of cats' way in a high place from where it later disappeared, so with luck the bird survived.

The greatest number of fledglings are tree sparrows, although I've managed to capture no more feeding sessions – I blame the time spent updating the Chatterbox website (the magazine's in the shops now) and packaging copies of Eilean Dubh for dispatch by post. We're still selling a few, I'm pleased to say.

The good weather means that The Rural Retreat is a cat-free zone for much of the day. The Fearless Ones are outside most of the time, up to no good, unless they require food or sleep; alfresco snoozing has yet to occur to them.

Even Maia, the stay-at-home cat, is enjoying the sun, which allowed me to capture possibly her best portrait yet. What a star.
