The Noise Beyond The Trees

by admin - 23:16 on 04 September 2013

The long spell of mostly fine weather means that harvesting of the golden bounty around The Rural Retreat is almost complete. Work began tonight on the field with which we share a tree-fringed boundary, causing much cautious interest from Maia and Willow and none at all (unless she's being sneaky) from Pandora.

This is just as well, for Matchgirl lives in fear of them tangling with a combine harvester. Willow is the most likely candidate for a clipped nose, being no less daft that when she was a kitten, but so far she's done no more than watch and listen.

Fortunately, she knows that there's far more excitement to be found in the tangle at the bottom of the garden, which is where I found her after she briefly went missing this evening.

More butterfly hunts took place in the last few days, most hindered by a leaping Willow, but despite her help I was able to snap a better Speckled Wood and a Peacock. I'll keep searching.

Bakery Update: Helga and Peter, The Pride's German fans, report that their cat, Satchmo, is like Maia in being attracted to any unattended bread. Maybe it's a black cat thing.

Wow, that Peacock butterfly is stunning.

They're so gaudy you'd think they should be tropical. With luck our buddleia bush will be big enough next year to attract lots.
