Back From The Dead

Life in The Rural Retreat has been far too quiet recently, so I'd been looking forward to this week and a diary packed with events and anniversaries. Then, on Sunday, I woke with a sore, aching throat...
In consequence, on Monday I missed the opening night of the new Dingwall Camera Club season; on Tuesday I missed the opening night of the East Sutherland Camera Club season in Brora, at which Squirrel James and I were to be the star attraction (he soldiered on alone); on Wednesday I missed the opening session of the Black Isle Writers' new season, which I was to attend to decide if I should join the ranks of local scribblers. Very frustrating.
No worthwhile snappery took place during the last few days but several books were read and DVDs watched, none of any great intellectual content.
To spare Matchgirl my sniffles I activated the sofabed in The Kittenry, where I've spent the last few nights, my rest hampered by an overly solicitous Maia who showed her sympathy by sleeping on my legs. You can always rely on cats.
Thankfully, I recovered in time to spend this auspicious day in good health – auspicious because today is the fifth anniversary of the day that Matchgirl and I became man and wife. The traditional gift on such a day is made of wood, so it's appropriate that we're considering a jointly purchased garden bench to mark the occasion. We know how to celebrate.
Of possibly more interest to Matchgirl was the first anniversary earlier in the week of our acquisition of a cat and two kittens. She has her priorities. That may be why I received a pre-anniversary gift of How To Bake by Paul Hollywood. Good job I can take a hint. I'll get stuck in now there's no chance of passing on infection.
If I think I've had life hard in the past few days, I can always rely on Henri, le Chat Noir, to put things into perspective. I hope that The Pride is more appreciative of Soo and Tony's cat-sitting efforts.
