An Anniversary Treat

by Russell Turner - 20:17 on 17 September 2018

So that’s ten years gone – ten years since Matchgirl and I were married at Rocpool Reserve in Inverness. Where did the time go?

To mark the occasion we returned there yesterday evening for a very upmarket dining experience at the Chez Roux restaurant. I even wore a tie. Pricey, yes, but worth the money, especially the mackerel and crab starter. Matchgirl was most impressed by the chocolate tasting plate for dessert.

The restaurant was surprisingly busy for Sunday evening, but not with locals. Two adjoining tables were occupied by Americans and another by a large Indian party. Maybe it’s too smart for Invernessians; they don’t know what they’re missing.

We may well be back in another ten years (if not before), but Boath House remains Matchgirl’s favourite. I’m undecided.

Luxury living was just a memory today, inside a rain-soaked Rural Retreat. My next run should have taken place but weather and a residual weekend tiredness meant it’s delayed until tomorrow, although chances are it will still be chucking it down then. If it is I’ll just have to put up with it – it might be raining on t’ Yorkshire Marathon day, less than four weeks away, so I should get some experience, just in case.

And there should be two of us running after all: the niggle in my leg has disappeared and Triathlon Cathy covered 18 miles without drama a few days ago. Let’s hope it stays that way.
