Bursting With Bursitis
by Russell Turner - 17:18 on 09 March 2022
My hurty heel didn’t calm down overnight. Next day, stairs were awkward; walking was slow (and still is). Fortunately I was able to get a short notice appointment with Adam the sports masseur who after hearing the symptoms and examining the flesh declared that I was most likely suffering from bursitis. I hadn’t heard of it either.
Today’s gait analysis has been postponed until I can run properly. On Friday I’ll submit myself to the ministrations of Mr Physio and see if his diagnosis is the same as Adam’s.
Some of the interweb information says overuse and bad shoes are among the causes but Adam declared that bad luck and JOOTT is just as likely. (JOOTT = Just One Of Those Things.) I returned home with Rocktape on my right heel and calf, which Matchgirl says means I’m now a real runner. Adam further opined that my chances of taking part in the Inverness Half Marathon on Sunday are 50/50, which was a bit of a surprise – I presumed my chances were much lower.
However, I’m not counting chickens and won’t take further chances; there’ll be no running until at least Saturday. Hindsight says I shouldn’t have run the Nairn 10k (I blame the good weather which lured me in) so I won’t turn up for Inverness unless I’m ache-free and the weather’s inviting. London Landmarks, a mere three-and-a-half weeks away, is still my primary target.
My Breast Cancer Now vest, made from recycled plastic bottles, has arrived so tomorrow I’ll attempt to iron on my name without melting it. Fundraising has stalled at 50% (£175) which means I’ll have to come up with some bright ideas in the next few weeks. Feel free to share the giving page and offer bright ideas of your own.
