Life in The Rural Retreat with a beautiful wife, three cats, garden wildlife, a camera, a computer – and increasing amounts about running

Roaming Romeo

by admin - 23:37 on 29 April 2010

Cat dramas continue to dominate the environs of The Rural Retreat. However, Bess – now much restored to health – is not the leading player. Romeo is missing.

Mrs Montague, who came seeking his whereabouts, blames the stray dog that wandered around the area for the past couple of days. Matchgirl didn't declare her guilty fears about the traumatic effect of water-filled squeezy bottles.

What's more likely is that Bess persuaded Mr Marten to carry off her pesky neighbour so she could have the garden to herself again.

The moggy and her mistress will doubtless keep an eye open for him over the weekend, although with different hopes of success. I'll be unable to join the search, for I'll be absent, leaving Matchgirl without my company in the Retreat for the first time. I'm sure she'll cope somehow.

The spanner twirlers at RM Motors cut it fine, but I was able to ride the fully fettled Kawasaki San away from their premises at 7pm, just before they shut for a very long weekend break. I now have two-wheeled transport for the bike club weekend in the Trossachs. The rain will doubtless begin to fall overnight.

Six miles after leaving Muir of Ord the GTR's mileometer returned to zero. Sadly, there's very little chance that I could fool anyone that I have a new bike.

Wildlife Update: No pine martens were seen today, nor were any goldfinches – even distant ones. Mr Woodpecker paid only a fleeting visit. So the best I could manage today was a couple of greenfinch studies.

If Mr Marten returns while I'm away, Matchgirl will be responsible for capturing his likeness. Fingers crossed.
